Now, I am by no means one to condemn anyone for these activities as I have been addicted to noise for years! When I was a child I came home to an empty house, so the first thing I did was turn on the tv to have something on in the background. And I am a music freak! I can hardly stand to be in the car without something playing on the stereo or cd. So please do not take my comments to mean I have it all together, because clearly I do not!
But with the last week being filled with yuck, I have been struggling to sit in the pot and not begrudge every moment of being there. So, on my way home, with no one to talk to, I decided it was time to listen. I turned off the radio, and just sat there, listening to the deafening silence. It was strange. No kids talking, no music, no voices, just quiet.
Well, it wasn't long before God interrupted the silence with the following message. I know it was for me, but I also think it is for a few of my friends out there, so I decided to share it with you.
"See that cloud right there, it doesn't think about how far it has to travel or consider the long journey it has ahead of it, or wonder how long it is going to take, or wish that it would just hurry up and be over with already. It just floats along with the wind and enjoys the journey as it goes. I was stunned. So, needless to say, I have found a new excitement in being silent. In this noisy world we live in, I believe God is trying to speak to us all the time, the question is - are we turning up the volume of God's voice by turning down the volume of the world around us?
