What's in a name?

Well, a lot actually.  As a matter of fact, so much is in a name that the people of God would wait until 8 days after the birth of the baby to bond, pray and seek the Lord and in almost every case, the name of the child turned out to be the character and nature of that child as they grew into adulthood.  It is important, it is the very thing that identifies you to the world around you.  You are not a number, a mistake or even a person of record - you are YOU!  And God knows your name.

This is all on my heart right now as we are settling into this new beautiful dwelling and I have been asking God to show me what HE wants to call this new home because after all - it does belong to Him.  We are simply the caretakers and it is a delightful location with warmth and light and lots of amazing aspects.  So far, we have come up with two choices, and they both have  distinct merit in them.  And we have not received release to select one or the other.

For those of you who know our story, just skim this part.  For those of you who don't, this is a little background of the journey to find this precious treasure.

We sold our home in May of this year and embarked on an interesting journey.  We did not know where we would end up, but we were trusting God that there would be a place for us.  My daughter and I moved in with my parents and my husband and son moved into an extended stay to get us through until school was finished for the year.  It was a trying time, but we survived being apart and eventually they moved in to my parents with us.  My husband and I were in the beautiful 34' trailer in the driveway, and our kids were in the house with mom and dad.  And the house hunting kicked into full gear.  We had been "kind of" looking all along, but finally started the long hours of searching and asking God to show us the plan.  We had a fantastic summer at my parents and the kids - and adults - actually thrived very well there.  A huge blessing to say the least.

Then we began to approach the end of the summer and no house had really popped out to say "This is the one!" and we made the decision to move into an apartment on a short term lease so that when school started up again our children would be in the same school they have always known.

About a month into the new lease, we find the house...so the process began and negotiations began, and the hassles began.  But eventually, God's favor and grace was so apparent on this home and our family that the doors just began to unlock.

So now, here we are in the amazing gift.  And it needs a name.  So here are the options...
  1. Sovereign Serendipity - which simply means "God's Fate".  You see He had a plan all along and His fate is never by chance or accident...it is sovereign.  We stepped out in faith and God's fate met us at each step along the way and lead us straight into His final destination for us.
  2. The Mosaic - a mosaic is a beautiful piece of artwork that is often times created out of the broken pieces of other things to create a unique and amazing piece of art.  The Master's Hand is always designing a magnificent creation, but often times all we see is the broken pieces.  It isn't until He is done and we step back that we can see the beauty of what He has created.

So I ask you my friends, which one seems to fit God's new Grote compound?

I have a name....Refuge. It's who you are as a family, where your heart is as a child of God, and what your home is to those who need rest and peace and love.
