There's just something about the rain!

I love thunderstorms. I mean, I REALLY love them. I could sit on the front porch and watch them for hours, listening to the rain hit the hard cement and bounce off the green leaves. Listening to the breeze blowing the trees back and forth. Watching the lightening light up the sky like fireworks. There really isn't much I can say about thunderstorms that I do NOT like!

Oh, and it is perfect for snuggle time too! Either with the one you love, or with a blanket and a good book - and if it is cold outside, a nice warm fire. Both options make for a perfect day in my opinion.

But thunderstorms can be scary to some, a fact I have never really understood. But revelation has descended and I have gained a new perspective from which to revere these acts of God.

Thunderstorms are powerful. They contain enough energy and stamina to inflict a great deal of damage to the surrounding area. They can be downright destructive. They can change the literal landscape of your home in a single moment.

The "storms" of life are not unlike the natural weather storms we see and feel. The news of cancer, the betrayal of a loved one, the death of a friend, the prodigal child, the addict, the loneliness, the emptiness, the list goes on.

These are the "storms" we face. These are the moments when you find out who Jesus is and what is His name in your life? Is He your healer, your helper, your deliverer, your savior, your friend, your lover, your constant companion...

No one can define who He is to you! No one can tell you how to relate to Him. That is something you learn through the storms.

Storms are powerful. They contain enough energy and stamina to inflict a great deal of damage to you and those around you. They can be destructive and change the landscape of your life in a single moment.

But...

They also wash away the grime
And life sustaining water is supplied
Destroying patterns and thoughts of old
Making way for the new, and dare I say, bold

If you will let God be sovereign - thunderstorm days will not only give you a chance to reflect upon your life, but will cleanse your world and deliver the perfect opportunity to learn to appreciate the sunshine more than ever.
