At one time or another, we have all been called names. As kids, others may have called you a name. As adults the same is true too. Some names we cannot repeat, others we say to our own selves hundreds of times a day.
What is your name? Is it one that God would call you? Or is it left over from something in your past? Do you use a wrong name for yourself or are you looking at what God's word says about you?
There is a huge truth in a line from Pretty Woman...after she is told by Richard Gere that she could be so much more, she simply says, "The bad stuff is easier to believe."
We live under that lie...that we are the bad names given to us over the years. Names that hurt and destroy and keep us from a real understanding of exactly who we are and what we are supposed to be doing. Satan tells us the bad stuff over and over again until we begin to tell ourselves those same lies...then he doesn't even have to do anything...any time we face a new struggle, we start the tape in our minds and tell ourselves about the bad stuff and how we cannot do it, we are not smart enough, we are not worth the trouble.
Well, not any more!
Today starts something new. Today God's mercies are new. And we can choose to believe what He has to say about us. His love letter to us tells us just who we are and how valuable we are to Him. Who are you going to choose to believe today - the ultimate intimidator or the creator of the universe? Who will I choose to believe today?
The God of the universe tells me I am loved, cherished, adored, and worthy enough to die for. I think today I will believe those things even if I don't always feel them. The voice I choose to hear is the one of my heavenly Father, so I will choose to shut out all the other voices that are not speaking truth to me. And if I fail, I will choose tomorrow to start my day over again listening to what He says because His mercies are new every morning. And eventually, I will only hear His voice and will change my beliefs about myself and walk in my true identity and not one that is twisted and fragmented. I pray you do to!
