A door closed means...

...No.  Not now.  Trust Me.

Those are not easy things to hear, live or deal with - EVER.  The two year old who stomps his feet because he does not get his way, is not a pleasant sight.  A teenager who pouts, yells, and even runs away is not any more pleasant.  But when a grown person acts that way toward God and the path that has been chosen specifically for him - well, that is just downright ugly.

A closed door or a road not taken could just be God saying "I am protecting you", "I know the plans I have for you, and they are better than this", or simply affords us the opportunity to show Him that we trust Him for everything.

Having a good attitude when we do not get our way can be challenging and requires a great deal of maturity.  But just as with everything else in life, especially a life lived in faith, it is our attitude and our motives that God watches the most.  And the fact of the matter is, most things that happen to us - good and bad - are used to teach us, mature us or prepare us for the next part of the journey.

The blessings of closed doors and the roads not taken are rarely seen during the journey.  If you learn to appreciate the journey, the destination will be that much sweeter in the end.

As Robert Frost tells us,

"I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference. "

What a beautiful expression of the fact that the journey is the true reward, not the destination.
