Giving thanks for taste buds - Day 5

So if you haven't guessed by now, in this challenge I have tried to find the simple, wonderful, often overlooked things to be thankful for in my life.  Of course I am thankful for my relationship with my heavenly Father, and I LOVE my husband, kids and extended family, and my wonderful friends.  But I am asking God to stretch me and to find the more unique things to be grateful for this month.  And today when I asked him what He wanted me to give thanks for...I was quite surprised when He said - taste buds!  I was shocked.  I never really thought about them before.  Certainly not on a giving thanks kind of platform.  But the more I thought about it, the more I was awestruck by them.

"I do not like green eggs and ham, I do not like them Sam I Am" has a whole new meaning for me now...I mean think about it - A life without taste buds would be incredibly, well, bland.  No good, no bad, NO taste.  One whole sense of the five - GONE.  What a tragedy that would be!

God was so interested in having us enjoy life that He created us with the ability to taste the foods we eat and to enjoy them.  He even went so far as to design our tongue in such a way that we would be able to distinguish between bitter, sour, salty and sweet with different parts of the tongue.  How cool is that?

As a kid I remember doing an experiment where we tried these four types of tastes on our tongues in the wrong sections and it did not taste the same at all.  Instead, the four parts of the tongue work together to allow us to fully enjoy the rich and diverse flavors around us as we nourish our bodies with the nutrients we need.

So today, as strange as it may sound, I am giving thanks for my taste buds, and for the ability to know that I still do not like brussel sprouts no matter how you cook them because God gave me a unique set of taste buds that tell me I do not like them Sam I Am!
